TOP TEN WAYS FOR FAMILIES TO FIND FUN IN MT WASHINGTON VALLEY

 

Throughout the summer, families flock to Mt Washington Valley.  There are so many fabulous family gems it takes more than a list of ten to mention them all. Yet, we'll try to give you a glimpse of some of the many family finds here.  Be sure to click on the links to take you to even more detailed lists of themed attractions, recreation, shopping, dining and more.
 
Family Attractions: Mt Washington Valley is filled with family attractions from  Story Land, Santa's Village, Conway Scenic RR, to Banana Village, Mt Washington Auto Road and the Mount Washington Cog Railway.  The Fun Zone at Cranmore Recreation Center is another great find for families, especially on rainy days.
 
Water Parks: Enjoy indoor water parks at two of Mt Washington Valley's hotels including Red Jacket Mountain View Resort's Kahuna Laguna, and Hampton Inn & Suites or outdoor fun at Six Gun City and Fort Splash Waterpark in Jefferson, Attitash or the new Ho Ho H2O ride at Santa's Village.
 
Farm Fun: Kids love to spend time on the farm and Remick Country Doctor Museum and the Maize at Sherman Farm offer hours of fun and great events this fall.
 
Go Fast:  For teens that love to go fast, try the ZipRider at Wildcat Mountain or the Canopy Tour at Bretton Woods.  Attitash's new Mountain Coaster or the Alpine Slide offer tons of go-fast fun too. Mt Washington Valley's family attractions don't end in Conway, consider a visit to Monkey Trunks or White Lake Speedway in the Southern part of the Valley for some high adventure and high speed fun.
 
Specialty Kids Museums:  For a small New Hampshire community, Mt Washington Valley offers a host of great museums for kids including the Mt Washington Valley Children's Museum, and the Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center.
 
Kid Friendly Shopping:   Families come to Joe Jones in North Conway for all of their adventure sports needs, knowing they will receive expert advice from our knowledgeable staff and to get top brand gear at great prices. Grandma's Attic in Bartlett offers crafting parties, events and supplies for family projects, North Conway's Toy Chest is a treasure trove of wonder for kids along with Wal-Mart, the Christmas Tree Shops, and the Penguin Gift Shop.  Zeb's General Store is another family favorite featuring an old fashioned candy counter and New England made toys, books and gifts.
 
Fun Family Feasts: Look for a number of fun family-friendly restaurants including   Red Fox Pub with its kids play area and theater, Red Parka Pub where kids love dining in the caboose and Elvio's, Flatbread Company or Fire 21 for pizza and sandwiches.  Click on the link for a long list of additional choices.  How about a traditional lobster bake at Purity Spring Resort on Purity Island or family fare from the Shovel Handle Pub, Rafferty's or Hillbilly's Southern BBQ or Yankee Smokehouse?

Family Fun on Horseback
:  Some kids can't get enough time on horseback, and there are plenty of options here from guided trail and pony rides at Black Mountain, The Stables at the Farm by the River B&B and Attitash to carriage rides at Darby Field Inn.
 
Free Family Fun: Looking for a totally free family day?  Try driving to the top of Cathedral Ledge for a grand view of the Valley, visiting one of the many natural swimming holes found throughout the Valley or simply spend some time on one of the many free playgrounds or parks including Schouler Park where swingsets, sprinklers and climbing equipment mean hours of free fun. Hiking, biking and scenic drives through the White Mountain National Forest, especially in the fall, are a wonderful way to spend family time together.
 
Splash Down:  August is the perfect time to float the day away in a canoe, kayak, tube, or guided tour. Rent boats or take a guided tour with North Woods Rafting, Northern Extremes Canoe and Kayak, Great Glen Trails, Saco Valley Canoe, or Woodland Acres Canoeing or Saco Bound Outdoors.
